Cayo Levantado

Cayo Levantado is an island in Samaná Bay, located in the Samaná Province in the eastern region of Dominican Republic. It is a well-known tourist destination in the country. The nearest airport, the Samaná El Catey International Airport is 68 kilometers away. A five-star hotel of the Grand Bahia Principe chain is located on the island. It has picked up the nickname Bacardi Island due to its location use in advertisements for the white rum spirit manufacturer Bacardi. A Bacardí commercial was filmed here in the 1970s. The picturesque little island is located just five kilometers from the Bay of Samaná, and boasts brilliant white sand and beaches fringed with palms. Every day, small taxi boats leave from the port of Samaná, on Avenida Marina, taking visitors to this small island. Spend the day swimming, sunbathing, kayaking or paddle boarding, and enjoy fresh fish on the public side of Cayo Levantado. You can also spend the night in the luxury hotel that occupies the other half of the island. Please note that there may be restrictions on visits on days when large cruise ships dock outside the island.
