One-way private car: ~$150–$200 USD (depending on car type and company)

3. Rental Car
Summary:
Best if you plan to explore Las Terrenas and nearby beaches during your stay.
How It Works:
-
Book a rental car online or at SDQ Airport (many major rental companies available: Avis, Budget, Europcar, etc.).
-
After picking up your car, drive north via the Autopista del Nordeste (Route 7) and Boulevard Turístico del Atlántico.
Directions:
-
From SDQ Airport, follow signs to Autopista del Nordeste (Route 7) toward Samaná.
-
After about 1 hour, take the Boulevard Turístico del Atlántico exit toward Las Terrenas (toll road).
-
Continue on the boulevard (beautiful coastal road) for about 45 minutes.
-
Arrive in Las Terrenas and navigate to Denny Cristina Apartments via Google Maps: Navigate Here.
Approximate Drive Time: 2–2.5 hours
Tolls: ~$15 USD total (three toll booths)
Rental Car Pricing:
-
Small car: ~$30–$50/day
-
SUV: ~$60–$90/day
-
Important note on Insurance: If you book online, the total cost is almost never final. When you pick up your car, the will most likely require you to purchase liability insurance. Some private rental agencies that are based outside the airport may not require you to buy insurance because they have to insure their vehicle. What the big firms do is just force to subsidize their insurance. Also if you use a reputable credit card or if you have travel insurance, collision insurance is already in your contract with the credit card firm or the travel insurer. Check with them. This is an insurance that you can decline, unlike the liability.
Pros:
-
Full freedom to explore beaches, restaurants, and excursions.
-
No dependence on schedules.
Cons:
-
Driving unfamiliar roads (mostly in good condition but watch for motorbikes and local traffic in town).
-
Higher responsibility (insurance, tolls, parking).

Using Moroconcho?
In the Dominican Republic, “moroconcho” usually refers to a small local motorcycle taxi — basically, someone offering quick rides on a motorbike for a few pesos.

motoconcho
Think of it as the Dominican version of a fast, cheap, no-frills Uber — except on two wheels.
-
In Las Terrenas, moroconchos are everywhere.
-
They’re the fastest way to move around town: from the bus station to your apartment, to the beach, to restaurants, etc.
-
They’re very affordable: a short ride usually costs between RD$50–RD$100 (around $1–$2 USD).
How to Use a Moroconcho:
-
You just wave at any passing moroconcho (they’ll usually beep or slow down when they see you).
-
Tell them your destination (like “Caribey condo, located between Mosquito Bar and Don Cesar, and in front of Pueblo de los Pescadores” or show them on Google Maps). In Spanish: Condominio Caribey, ubicado entre Mosquito Bar y Don Cesar, y frente al Pueblo de los Pescadores
-
Negotiate the price before you hop on (it’s normal to agree on RD$100 or less for most rides inside Las Terrenas).
-
Helmets are not always offered — be aware of this if you’re concerned about safety.
-
Payment is cash only.
Pros of Taking a Moroconcho:
-
Super cheap.
-
Fast (they cut through traffic easily).
-
Convenient for short distances (like from the bus station to Denny Cristina).
- You can befriend the driver, grab their WhatsApp number and contact them when you need them.
Cons:
-
Safety: Not all moroconchos carry an extra helmet for passengers.
-
Comfort: No room for luggage. (Good only for yourself and maybe a small backpack.)
-
Weather: Not great in rain.
When Should You Use a Moroconcho?
-
If you arrive by bus with just a backpack or small luggage, a moroconcho is a perfect quick ride to Denny Cristina.
-
If you have large suitcases, better to grab a regular taxi instead. Note that taxis are expansive even for short distances, in particular if they know you are a foreign tourist. If you need help, we can try, just contact me on WhatsApp.
