Playa Las Ballenas

Playa Las Ballenas is the most beautiful and quiet beach of three beaches in Las Terrenas in the north of the Dominican Republic. Here you will find a long white sandy beach decorated with numerous palm trees and stylish beach bars. In the west of the beach you will also find a sailing school, which offers sailing courses as well as equipment for kayaking and canoeing. In the evening you can sip a cool beer or a delicious cocktail and enjoy the sunset with Bachata music.  Ballenas is a beautiful and one of the quietest beach sections of the tourist village. Translated, Playa Las Ballenas means “whale beach”, as there are three small sandbanks off the coast of the beach, which together form the shape of a whale.

Pure relaxation at Playa Las Ballenas

A real feast for the eyes awaits you here. Playa Las Ballenas is a long white sandy beach that invites you for a leisurely walk at sunset. The atmosphere is very relaxed and you can relax here or read a book and listen to the sounds of Dominican music. Locals like to come here and bring their radio to give the afternoon a musical touch. For the very relaxed, massages are occasionally offered directly on the beach. The beach ends with black rocks and a green forest. Otherwise, numerous palm trees and fallen coconuts adorn the picture, which are often also picked by beach vendors and sold to tourists.

Activities at Playa Las Ballenas

At the western end of the beach you will also find a sailing school that offers sailing courses for beginners to advanced sailors. There is also a sailing camp for the kids. In addition to sailing offers, canoes, kayaks, SUP boards, hobie cats and windsurf boards are also available for hire. In the evening, the beach visitors enjoy a cool beer or delicious cocktails with rum in the stylish beach bars to round off the day in style. Here you can experience pure Caribbean flair with merengue and bachatak sounds and let your soul really dangle.

Trips to the neighboring beaches

Directly adjacent to the beach you will find a small road that leads into the centre of the village and is used by many quads and scooters. Here locals also offer scooters at certain sections to get to the other beaches of Las Terrenas – Punta Popy and Bonita. Behind the road there are numerous hotels, most of which are visited by beach holidaymakers from France, Italy and Spain. In the Semana Santa, at Easter, the beach is also popular with national guests arriving from major cities in the country.
